I have finished what I consider my introduction to the teaching credential program, having taken in reverse order, Intro to Credentialing(TED601) and Foundations of Education(TED615) with Professor "Kimo" Sanchez at National University. I have learned that there are many forks in the road that all eventually lead to teaching in a public school. I am going to focus on the internship route that may or may not include the ECO(early completion option) that involves taking a "foundations of Education" test. For now I have decided to cancel my March class(TED605), fine-tune this website, fine-tune my approach to my teacher candidacy, get serious about making Plumbob a legitimate business, and pick up in April with classes again.

According to this article there are only 3 cal state programs that offer IA teaching credentials. When you add NU to the mix, thats 4, and NU's can barely be considered an Industrial Arts program! We are losing IA teachers and have barely any means of replacing them. This is double trouble because this means shops are closing because of lack of interest, teachers replacing the old ones, and cut off funding.

I learned that there is is no single path into teaching. There are standards that need to be met by completing assessments that are then assessed by CTC and scored. How you meet those needs is through a teacher prep program that is approved by CTC.
Once in a program there are multiple paths to getting into a teaching position.

• take all the course work to work on the TPAs and TPEs.
• it is possible to take coursework that will help you satisfy TPA1 which is the minimum requirement (plus CSET, constitution class, Negative TB test, finger prints etc) to get an internship at a school. once you are in the classroom and as a paid intern, you can be supervised to met the requirements for TPAs 2-4 while you work.

I was drawn to pursuing my teaching credential becuase I wanted to innovate in public schools to develop a vocational track for the industrial arts. I am now extending these thoughts to include innovating how Industrial Arts teachers are trained and credentialed. The industrial arts teacher's assessments can share some standards with academic subjects, but quickly starts to diverge when you consider the special requirements of a machine shop and the nature of the hands-on learning environment. It is fundamentally a different mode of teaching.

I forgot a bunch of things from TED615. I got a chance to recall on a practice test that was exactly from 615, and I couldn't remember a lot of the core Acronyms. It was a little embarrassing and made me remember that I need to be extra careful to map out all of the info I learn in this program. It is going to be important that I am able to use key terms to match what I want to teach n the class to standards if I want to be effective at navigating the system.

The accelerated student course that is outside of or next to the mainstream ed system..

learning that we need to challenge the student to challenge the teacher, and get involved in their own education. don't let them just be passive consumers of education. teach them to back up their actions with key terms that speak to teachers. don't abuse it, but make education work for you.\

teachers are flying by themselves. they fly by the seat of their pants, they can flow and integrate their life and teaching.

I felt ready to move on tonight, a great close to this class and a great start for this endevour. I have developed my content management(Thanks! drupal.org) for my coursework to a level I am comfortable with. the basics are here, but it will still evolve and get more reader friendly shortly. I will continue to develop my approach to education, and the system which contains it, and work to drive a decentralization of education administion. I believe this will create a condition for health in our community. I will take ideas from the open source community while also participating in the Drupal community. I will take pages from the books of the private education institutions like National University and turn Plumbob.org into a non-profit model. And I will develop some key conditions that I believe are vital to holding together this model; industrial works programs starting in middle school. It will bridge the gap between school and home with teach/work solutions for redesigning and rebuilding existing housing stock with passive solar techniques.
