Core Educational Philosophy

I passionately engage in and exhibit respect for knowledge, learning, and connecting with others in all areas of my life.

I believe every person has the capacity to understand any given thing at any given time during his or her lifetime if provided with the opportunity and encouragement to do so. I believe in the power of hands-on learning, which connects the brain with real-world experiences and more complete knowledge. I believe the best teaching focuses on guiding students to reveal answers collectively or by themselves. Everyone in the classroom is there to learn together, and everyone has something unique to offer.

The culture of our urban and suburban landscape is at direct odds with this pedagogy. It has removed the home as the primary place of learning almost entirely, leaving the teacher to deal with sometimes insurmountable challenges. Hence, I believe the survival of the U.S. education system rests upon society's collective ability to find a way to incorporate the advancement of open educational standards with the simultaneous strengthening of home and family so that children are fundamentally better prepared to work with teachers throughout the process of their own development as citizens.
