Marina: Art/Crafts

Marina is the Arts and Crafts teacher at Hyde middle school in Cupertino Union School District. I met Marina in the Fall of 2009 after completing the previous year for the same Arts and Crafts class as a long-term sub at Hyde Middle School.

  1. Whats the most important thing you do that balances the rigors of being a teacher?
  2. How do you see Art in schools in the next 5/10 years?
  3. The current trend of Arts/electives being cut is undeniable. How do you think the typical Hyde student views this trend? What would you tell them is the most important issue to understand that the Arts are vital to a complete education.
  4. I am appalled at how society is treating education, teachers, and ultimately our children's education. What is the first condition in society you think of when faced with these realities?
  5. Show pics and talk about public art projects, and public art, graffiti, etc. Why do people tend towards unlawful art? definance?
  6. Possible rebranding of arts and crafts? Industrial mix? production to sell. Neal creating a business club to learn how to market and sell products. Marketing through Arts. Media. How do we integrate?
